My objectives for the year:
1) To explore dramatic movement. That is, to empower the student to make movement choices on a scale, tempo or orientation that is dramatically different from “normal” movement. At more advanced levels, these choices are made with the intention of achieving a character goal. At the preschool age it’s important that students explore and learn that they are capable of controlling and changing their movements.
2) To gain comfort as an individual before a group. This is my advanced goal for the year, but I think totally achievable. While recitations and solos are of course too much to expect, I really want to work toward the kids’ making their dramatic choices as an individual rather than as a group. The purpose is to empower students to have confidence in their own creative ideas and decisions, and to introduce them to the performer/audience relationship in a supportive and forgiving environment.
These are essential theatre skills and – especially for the young student – life skills. If you have any feedback about these objectives, please let me know.
Ms. Tova
Our drama and movement class began today with Morah Tova. The children really enjoyed acting and were extremely generous in their compliments to Tova before her departure. We look forward to working with Tova again next week!
