Today was a really calm and mannered day. We remembered to use our polite voices, and ask kindly if we wanted to use a friend’s toy or pencil. Aleph Bet time, we rolled clay and embossed our Hebrew initial. Then, we decorated our plaque with beads. They really turned out beautiful! I am so impressed at the extent of our fine motor skills.
After snack, the children went up to the loft and started “coloring cars,” as Ruby put it. At each passing car, they called out its color. When a big burst of cars came, Ruby exclaimed, “This is hard!” Still, it was so enjoyable, that Yonatan and Marley ran to join Natasha, Ruby, and Dovid. One car turned into the driveway, and all heads followed it, quickly naming its color.
We have so many beautiful projects that we are just about to complete. Keep your eyes open for incredible accomplishments that we will God willing share at the end-of-the-year party!
Have a good Shabbat,
Rochel

Anna Makes a Foot Print

Natasha balances while washing her foot in the sink.

We experimented with our feet today during indoor exploration. The children happily used paint to make a foot flower. First the students made a footprint with the paint. Then they utilized paintbrushes and their fine motor skills to add stems and additional petals. The students really enjoyed the challenge of balancing on one foot while making their footprints. It made for a really fun gross motor activity.

Dovid points to letter Gimmel
We are seizing the last moments of school and surging forward in our learning. Aleph Bet discovery continues in full swing. We made body shields out of the letters. Then we sang the Aleph Bet song, Indian chief style, with the students choreographing the motions.

Yonatan proudly sports letter Zayin
Today, the Aleph Bet were projected onto the wall and we traced the letters. We then made the shape stretching our bodies on the floor.

The outdoors continues to fascinate us. We never tire of the beautiful weather and our imaginative play-scape!

The excitement of the end of the school year and summer is in the air. The energy in our classroom is ramped up which makes for some silly messy moments and activities. Today the students had a fabulously fun time while painting. Much of the student’s recent dramatic play has revolved around monsters which prompted a few children to paint their faces and arms a creepy purple color. All of the students enjoyed the shenanigans. The giggles could be heard outside the classroom! However, from a teacher’s perspective the best part of the activity was the cleanup effort. All of the students helped wipe down the tables and eagerly got on all fours to clean paint of the floors. It was truly a spectacular whole class cleanup effort!

Today was another example of our wonderful families collaborating to make our class and school group picture happen, thank you Tracy (Matilda’s mom) for kindly gathering us together for a very memorable photo. It was wonderful having the support of Alexa (Quinten’s mom), Sarah (Wilson’s mom) and Barbra (Wyatt’s Oma) who danced and jumped behind Tracy while she captured our smiles. It was team work in full force, I wish I had picture of them being so wonderful. Thank you.
The morning was spent outside where we painted, had our snack and did the usual water exploration, gardening, and making sand cookies. The afternoon we were delighted to have performers and an audience for a puppet show created with their puppets the children made in class with Rochel.

The dark clouds didn’t keep the children from enjoying playing outside. I observed the children sharing and working together while playing outside. Matilida, Zoe, Marley and Natsha shared the tire swing, while Dovid, Yonatan and Sheva worked together to make a birthday sand cake. Ethan and Joshua collected sticks and rocks behind the pine tree while protecting their space from pretend enemies.

The Timeless Treasures hand prints turned out beautiful and are ready to go home. Originally we were going to hang them in the bathroom until the end of the year. However, given their fragile nature, we decided to photograph them instead. The students helped take photos today and I will either print them out individually or create a poster. Photography is something most students have expressed an interest in and they really enjoyed photographing their artwork.

We love making sounds and today we made maracas, we used a few different items to fit into our recycled bottle caps and each maraca created makes it’s own unique sound. The elementary children were very excited to share with our class their puppet show, it was an exciting day for all the children.
